Limited Capacity full

1 out of 3 Black Men are expected to go to prison in their lifetime. More than a Statistic: Creating Safe and Supportive Spaces for Young Men of Color is an engaging and transformative workshop that will provide participants with an opportunity to create a collaborative learning experience centered around supporting young men of color.  With men of color making up 67% of the prison population as of 2016, it is important for youth practitioners to develop a better sense of understanding around what these young men are carrying with them into their programs.  More than a Statistic will challenge its participants to shift their mindsets and begin the critical conversation around the challenges that arise while trying to create a safe space for young men to express themselves, solve problems, and build community. This workshop will also be a space where participants can share and receive best practices while developing an understanding of the importance of team building and supportive relationships.
